Past Event: FHF’s Healthy Step Spring Hike-a-thon!

FHF’s Healthy Step Spring Hike-a-thon!

The hills were covered with wild flowers and the air was crisp fresh! Over 90 people came out of their winter hibernation to take healthy steps for themselves and to give hope to orphans and unfortunate children on Sunday, April 19, 2009!

Over 60 adult and children participated in this exciting hike led by our expert hiking volunteers Tuan, Paul and Katie while others took a map and chartered their own course through the sunny green hills of the Joseph D. Grant County Park.

We would like to thank the following individuals for their careful planning and execution:

Our Executive Director, Thien Nhien, who tirelessly puts her energy into everything she does and manages multiple projects well. Behind every successful woman there is a supportive and patient spouse, and we want to thank our friend Chris Vu for his support and holding down the fort of three toddler children while Thien Nhien takes the FHF's burdens over her shoulders.

We can't thank our new board member Spencer Ton enough for his dedication and support of all the projects Thien Nhien is working on. We love the business cards Spencer!

There is also our newest recruit who has been absolutely phenomenal with assisting Thien Nhien with planning the hike-a-thon. We would like to deeply thank our friend Lauren (Lan Anh) Hoang who made the signs which help drivers to find where we were at the park, made multiple fruit salad trays, two ginormous seafood salads, and picked up a huge tub of chow mein to help feed the hungry mass of hikers.

To our other chefs Huan Nguyen and Debbie Nghiem who brought a delicious pasta salad and delicious marinaded chicken for grilling, respectively.

Much thanks to the incredible work of Yen Chi and Duc Nguyen who kept our children occupied with great arts and craft activities in the shades. Great thanks to this donation from Yen Chi's Children's Garden for preschoolers and kindergartner children. Go Yen Chi!!

Great thanks to Sandy and Barry who are always there for us through thick and thin. Not to forget sisters Kim, niece Helen and Mom who readily lend helping hands any time. You guys are great!

I would also like to mention Thien Nhien's cousins, Hoang and Huy, who were absolutely fantastic in helping to make sure the event ran smoothly!

Ai-Minh, thanks for always being there and rallying the masses to support FHF's event!

Thanks to many VAPA friends and families who came out for a VAPA reunion and support of FHF!

Kudos to Anh Huan from Google for being a companion and strong supporter of FHF for many years and donated nearly 1/3 of this year's hike-a-thon funds raised!

Last but not least, many thanks to Arthur Bao for barbequeing under the baked hot sun of 90 plus degree!

Finally, under the grilling sun, one cannot live without delicious ice cream, gelato of 18 different flavors, frozen ice cream and crepes filled with fresh fruits and ice cream at Coolicious www.cooliciouscreamery.com made possible by the generosity of Dean Do who offered Gift Certificates to raffle away.

The biggest prize give-away was to the Internationally renown Seahorse Resort for a lucky winner who got a 3-day and 3-night get-way at the premium luxury resort in Mui Ne, Vietnam. Thank you to Allen Nguyen for making this dream get-away for that lucky winner!

Thanks our friend Paul Huang for these great pictures of the hike and picnic.
